Bold Truth

If you will fact-check a news article but not your pastor's sermon, something is off.

Berean Standard

"Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."

— Acts 17:11

If you will fact-check a news article but not your pastor's sermon, something is off. We live in a time where theology goes viral before it goes through Scripture. Celebrity quotes get shared more than chapter and verse. Motivational speeches wear the costume of sermons, and we applaud without examining. The Berean Jews in Acts 17:11 set a standard we desperately need to recover. They received the message with great eagerness, yes. But they also examined the Scriptures every day to see if what they heard was true. Eagerness and examination are not enemies. They are partners. Love your pastor. Honor your teachers. But let the Word of God be your highest authority, not personality, not platform, not popularity. Biblical literacy is not optional. It is your defense against deception dressed in Christian language. Open your Bible before you open your comments section. Are you as diligent about checking what you hear on Sunday as you are about checking what you read online?
